Utility Project - Moultin' Larva

Doyle Dean is back with another Utility Project album of independent catchy alternative (un) popular music (and merchandise!)

It's ALMOST complete!  A Utility Project first.... a 2CD set + a bonus 3rd album of extras.

Both albums were recorded in the same state of the art studio in Potsdam, NY. The first is the Moultin' Larva record- largely just yours truly - with a little help from friends....   Tyler Nappo plays a mean trumpet, Mike Dufresne kills it on Bari Sax, Jenna Stufkosky, a talented young vocalist, does some chord-ing work on one tune,  Laura Brown - also a lovely vocalist- Bill Vitek piano on one tune- and the ever talented Stephen Bird plays bass on a few..

I'm really happy with this record- it's different that the others, it's a very personal statement from me, I feel.  I still work with Jerod, we are planning a future project together as well, but for THIS Utility Project album I needed total control.

This leads me to DISC 2!  For the past few years I've occasionally played live shows with Stephen Bird and Jerod Sommerfeldt.  It's always a blast- we recorded one morning in December of 2016- the tracks have been edited a bit, but are, in effect, just as they occurred, improvised instrumentals.  There's a certain raw energy that I enjoy about the record and I'm anxious to share.

So WHAT is this Kickstarter about??  Well, we could probably put out the albums now as digi downloads and quietly slink into the wood work, but we'd RATHER share it on a larger scale by pressing some CD's making some T-shirts and other bling!  Bling is fun, it helps us advertise our cause and, well, I want a T-shirt!  don't you???  The funds raised will allow for PRODUCTION and GRAPHIC DESIGN... necessary steps in creating something memorable.  Thank you for your consideration.

Oh, hi, you're still there?  I thought you might want to read a couple of nice things that people have said about Utility Project, I didn't even threaten or scare them into doing it:

Kjehl Johansen (Trotsky Icepick, 100 Flowers, The Urinals):

"Doyle Dean continues to ladle out servings of his sonic witches brew - concocted in a mysterious workshop that flies an amorphous banner entitled “Utility Project.” Outsider artists, shady musicians, and exiled spiritualists darken the door of his studio. When they leave, they leave behind parts of their artistic souls for the master to conjure and manipulate into oddly literate portraits of this world and other possible words just out of reach. Dean is on a crusade in this collective moment which is filled with crass commercial art and loveless consumerism. With his latest release, he challenges you, the listener, to drink the Kool-Aid and become one with the hive mind of Utility Project. Count me in Brother!!! Any other path is pure folly."

Tony Coulter, legendary WFMU DJ:

"Imagine a very catchy and fun indie rock song. Then, deconstruct that song completely, as if you were taking apart a jigsaw puzzle. Then put the pieces back together in a totally different order, that shouldn’t work, but somehow does. Now you have something that’s catchy and fun, yet intriguingly weird in the best possible way. The music of Utility Project is a little bit like that."

Johanna J. Bodde, renown DJ and purveyor of taste

"an unusual and rather genius combination between avant garde music and a lot of science"
